Rope grabs are mainly used with rope vertical lifelines. They are designed for fall arrest between a worker wearing a full-body harness and a suitable fall arrest anchorage.
The rope grab system may extend far below the point at which the worker is engaged. In case of a fall, the burden of fall arrests rests on the device and the rope.
The ropes can either be soft rope grabs or hard rope grabs. The soft rope grabs are made of rated textile products that are tied to the host rope using a hitch. the prusik loops are stitched 6-8mm. The Hard rope grabs on the other hand are manufactured devices such as Gibbs Ascender, the Petzl Rescusender
The robe grab should be kept away from oil and corrosives that could reduce friction or damage the rope. The rope needs to be in stable conditions to ensure that the ability to stop a fall is smooth.
